Nevada style Pai Gow Poker is played on a blackjack type table with a 53 card deck. (A standard 52 card deck PLUS 1 Joker) The Joker may be used as an Ace or as any part of a straight or flush. The table layout accommodates up to six players and the dealer. The object of the game is to beat the banker. (Usually the dealer.)
The 53 card deck hand values are the same as in poker except that five aces is the highest hand. Higher than a royal flush and A 2 3 4 5 is the second highest straight, behind A K Q J 10. Aces can be used as either high or low cards in straights.
Basic Rules of the Game:
First, all players place their bets. Then a stack of seven cards are dealt to each player face down. The dealer then offers to the “banker” job to each player. If all players decline to finance the game, the dealer is the banker.
The players and dealer then set their seven cards into two hands. A HIGH hand (consisting of 5 cards) and a LOW hand (2 cards). The 5 card “HIGH” hand must beat the”LOW” hand. If the opposite accidently happens, it is called a FOUL and is an automatic loss for the player. For the player to win, BOTH of his hands must be higher than the banker. If the wins are split between banker and player, it is a PUSH or tie.
Exact tie hands are called “COPIES”. Therefore if both player and banker have A K for the two card hand, or both have a 9 8 7 6 5 for the “High” hand, it is a copies. The BANKER wins all copies.
After all players hands are set, the dealer turns all the banker’s cards face up and sets his hands. Once done, each player displays his hands to declare a push, loss or win.
